Test and control equipment is essential for the everyday operation of a hydroponic farm. A grower can be as low tech or as high tech as they prefer, but they will still need a baseline level of data or a basic level of automation to guide their decisions and help steer the crop.
Data can come in the form of Conductivity (Nutrient strength) and pH measurements from a handheld meter, or it can come from a monitor with a 24-hour LED display, or a monitor or controller that logs data to a grower’s smart phone via an app and gives alarm alters if any setpoints are compromised.
Automation can be as simple as a timer to turn a pump on and off, right up to controllers that automatically dose nutrient and acid stock solutions and activate a pump in response to solar setpoints.
A hydroponic system does not have to be overly complex or expensive to grow good crops. A simple, well-designed system managed by a grower who has a good heart for growing, and who can manage their staff well, will always put them in a strong position for success.
