Vortex 450mm Horizontal Air Movement Fans (HAFL) are a high air flow fan designed to provide a steady horizontal movement of air through a greenhouse.
Benefits
Continuous air movement within a greenhouse has many benefits:
- Promotes a steady rate of transpiration within a crop = Less stress.
- Reduction of heat loading within the greenhouse structure.
- Layers of humidity are moved away from the top of the crop to improve transpiration and reduce tip burn or other calcium transportation problems within the plant.
- Dryer foliage = Less fungal disease.
- Carbon Dioxide is more evenly dispersed throughout the greenhouse = Increased yields.
- Working conditions are made more pleasant for greenhouse workers = Higher productivity.

The Horizontal air flow fans have been specifically designed to be corrosion resistant. This is particularly important within a greenhouse or animal shelter environment where high levels of humidity, agrichemical sprays and fertilisers are in use.
The Vortex horizontal air flow fan features a stainless-steel body for superior corrosion resistance and for extra safety the fan includes safety grilles on both the intake side and the exhaust side of the fan.
Four suspension hanger eye hooks are included
Two chains and carabina clips are also included.
The impellor is statically balanced and is also corrosion proof being made from injection mould plastic. This also assist the fan to operate at a quieter noise output compared to metal style impellors.
A single phase motor 240/230v. CFM rating is 3500-4000cfm air flow nominal. Air throw is typically 25 metres within a standard 3.5m pole height greenhouse.
In single span greenhouses locate a fan at one end and then every 25metres facing in same direction. In multi-span buildings face the fans all in one direction in one span and then the opposite direction in the very next span to help create a circulation effect within the building.
Vortex fans are popular for the prevention of stagnant air occurring within buildings and thus help prevent associated diseases or infections that can occur within closed environments that have high density plant or animal populations.
Note: Always use a qualified electrician to connect and appropriate RCD protection to suit individual application. Some sites have a low voltage supply or variable voltage supply please fit a voltage regulator and thermal overload in these situations.
