Windbreak Cloth

Windbreak Cloth is used to reduce wind intensity, and it offers excellent long-term protection for a crop and greenhouse.

The benefits of a windbreak cloth are as follows:

• Protection from wind damage – Prolonged exposure to wind will accelerate transpiration within a plant and cause wilting. The force of the wind can also knock plants around inside a hydroponic system or dislodge them. This puts plants under stress and creates abrasions on the stem and foliage, which are entry points for disease. The dislodgement of a plant from a hydroponic system isolates it from the nutrient solution which can result in plant losses if it is not detected early.
• Wind speed reduction – The use of windbreak cloth creates an area of reduced wind velocity on the leeward side of the cloth (the side sheltered from the prevailing wind). This sheltered area extends from near the base of the windbreak cloth up to approximately 10–15 times the height of the cloth downwind. A 3.66m high windbreak cloth will therefore create a sheltered zone of 36.6m – 54.9m downwind of the cloth. 
• Improved microclimate – A windbreak reduces wind fluctuations and turbulence resulting in a more stable microclimate with improved plant growth and yield.
• Maintained airflow – Airflow is not blocked out completely and is still maintained through the pores in the netting, allowing for temperature regulation within the growing area. 
• Reduced dust levels and soil erosion – By reducing the wind speed and diverting the direct airflow away from a growing area, there is less force available to dislodge soil particles and less ability to blow them into a growing area. Dust can contain soil borne pathogens. By reducing its presence in a growing area, you can maintain a higher overall level of plant health and sanitation in the growing area. 
• Trapping of dust – The windbreak cloth also traps floating dust particles within the fabric and the turbulence immediately around the windbreak cloth allows the particles to settle out. 
• Noise reduction – The use of windbreak cloth can also reduce noise levels that may be emitted from nearby highways or equipment. 
• Consistent and no maintenance – Natural windbreaks made by trees require regular pruning and maintenance. A fabric windbreak is made of UV resistant materials, and its wind porosity is consistent providing for long lasting protection.

WINDBREAK-SK Semi Knitted, Non Fray

 Windbreak SK is a cost effective, short term (3-5 years) windbreak, used to establish young trees on farm properties, boundary fences, residential home and other applications. It is used extensively in the avocado industry. Manufactured using UV stabilized PP tape yarn and mono filament yarn. Colours  available are Green or Black.  It is a robust windbreak. For a cost effective windbreak, don’t go past Windbreak SK.
