Compostible Plant Clips

Pure Hydroponics supplies a range of fully Compostible Plant Clips.

The clips are made form Polylactic acid or polylactide (PLA) which is a thermoplastic aliphatic polyester derived from renewable resources such as corn starch. This provides a 100% biodegradable & compostible plant clip.

The plant clips maintain full strength and durability until they are buried and exposed to compostible conditions which initiates the break down process.

When changing crops at the end of a growing cycle a commercial tomato or capsicum grower is faced with the laborious task of removing the plant clips from the vines. Many of these clips have often become embedded into the vines as the stem has expanded or else they break upon removal. The exercise of removing the clips and then disposing of the vines can take many hours and use up valuable labour resources. Any clips that are then reused need to be sufficiently sterilised or else they pose a disease risk for the following crop.

The purpose of the compostible plant clips is to allow growers to remove the vines from the greenhouse with the plant clips still intact and then dispose of everything at a landfill – All at once, with no mess and no fuss.

As soon as the plant clips are buried at landfill they begin to compost and break down with the plant into harmless organic material.

The compostible clips are slightly more expensive than conventional plant clips but if the grower weighs up the time savings and increased sanitation from a single use disposable clip then the extra cost is quickly recovered.

All clips are made in a 25mm internal diameter size with an easy opening mechanism and twine locking system.
